Hello,
we're trying to resolve an issue with our wordpress/woo-commerce website.
Our service provider shows us this message on the dashboard:
The uploads folder is too big
Overview
When you upload an image, video or other files to your WordPress Media library, it is saved in the /wp-content/uploads/ on your web space. In addition, WordPress adds information about your upload in the wp_posts and wp_postmeta tables in your database. If you've uploaded a lot of files, the uploads folder can become very big and start slowing down your site. In extreme cases, it can become so large that it affects the performance of our server, forcing us to temporarily suspend the website.
Status
The uploads folder is too big and potentially slows down your site.
How to fix
Reduce the size of the uploads folder by cleaning up the Media library in your WordPress dashboard. You can follow our guide for step-by-step instructions on how to do this.
We have followed those suggestions as far as possible but still have the issue of the uploads folder being too big.
Actually, our site is quite high capacity, as we upgraded the subscription to resolve this issue (It didn't).
After further enquiry, tech-support responded with this specific information:
...reviewed the escalation for your case and our Technical Team has responded that the folders below are too large:
wp-content/uploads/2016/07 (7147)
wp-content/uploads/2021/05 (6785)
wp-content/uploads/2016/12 (6034)
IIs it possible that creating sub-folders within these 07 05 and 12 folders, and distributing the thousands of images within them, might improve performance?
If so, is WP¨ Media Folder a suitable tool for this?
Thank you.
